Introduction
The Hospital and Outreach Teaching Service (HOTS) provides
educational support to meet the needs of vulnerable children
and young people experiencing interrupted education.
The Service is referral-based and works with children, young
people, schools, parents, partnership services and agencies.
To facilitate continuity and progression in the pupils’ learning,
their school retains overall responsibility for the provision of
appropriate resources and information.
Pupils who experience an interrupted education may include
those who:
· have medical conditions -
1. in hospital,
2. at home but unable to attend school due to ill health
3. attending Young People’s Unit (YPU)
· are excluded or on the verge of exclusion
- are Looked After and Accommodated Children
- are Gypsies or Travellers or Occupational Travellers
· are pregnant schoolgirls or young mums
