The Education of Children and Young People with a Medical Condition.

 

·     In hospital/at home

 

The Service provides education support to pupils who have sustained absence from school. We aim, as far as possible, within the constraints of their medical condition and treatment, to provide an individualised educational input.

 

The Education of Children and Young People with Mental Health Needs

 

        ·     YPU

 

The service provides educational input to young people who are inpatients. Pupils are taught in a classroom by subject specialists at all levels of the secondary curriculum.

 

The Education of Children and Young People who are excluded or on the verge of exclusion from School

 

The Service provides educational and/or behavioural support to primary and secondary pupils who are excluded from school.

 

Primary pupils who are experiencing significant difficulties in school and are on the verge of exclusion may also be eligible for support.

 

The Education of Looked After and Accommodated Children and Young People

 

The Service provides educational and behavioural support to children and young people who are Looked After and Accommodated. Support is provided for pupils who are excluded from school, who are non-attending, or who are experiencing significant difficulties in school.

 

The Service may provide time limited, targeted Learning Assistant support for Looked After and Accommodated Children who are experiencing significant difficulties in school. Where a child would benefit from one-to-one support to improve educational attainment, the Service may provide out of school hours’ tuition.

 

The Education of Gypsy Travellers and Occupational Travellers

 

The service provides educational support to youngsters who are members of the Gypsy/ Traveller Communities. Pupils who are starting school for the first time, returning to school after travelling or experiencing significant difficulties in school are eligible. Time limited, targeted Learning Assistant support may be available for those experiencing significant difficulties.

 

The Education of Pregnant Schoolgirls and Young Mums

 

The Service has a Young Mums’/Pregnant Schoolgirls’ Unit based in Wester Hailes Education Centre. Pregnant schoolgirls or those with a young child can continue their education supported by a member of HOTS staff. There is a crèche available for babies.
